One Sky a Day

Painting is my way of translating life, of filtering imagery. It is sensory assimilation. My work narrates life, and it becomes inevitable to return to it as one would to diaries, in an attempt to understand who one is. It is with the beginning of a new work that the previous one becomes something already lived. And, one by one, they form a narrative. A timeline.
The series One sky a day emerged as a gesture to break boundaries, to widen my gaze, to expand. The chaos was left behind, movement happened, vision expanded.
During the turn of the year, from 2024 to 2025, I stepped outside and looked up: the sky was coloured with the light of fireworks. I was overcome with a sense of pride and recognition for having arrived where I was. For the next hundred days, I photographed the sky. I stopped when I had grown used to believing, when I no longer needed to remind myself of what I was capable of.
This ritual of recording would become a series of paintings only months later. I chose thirty-one skies and painted one per day over the course of a month. The process was cathartic. The continuity of painting daily brought with it the need to be more spontaneous, more daring, and to explore different moments of letting go within the act of creation.
In this series, I explored the forms and textures of clouds, the surprising possibilities of colour, and the freedom that painting gives me to intervene in this reality, completing each day the sky I wanted. Each painting was a choice of path.
Seeing the thirty-one sky paintings spread across my studio at the end of the process is a memory that will never cease to fill me with a sense of capability and strength.
